Hi! Francesca Astraea here. I spend my time in Southend-on-Sea, Essex and Bath, Somerset, and I’ve been a professional writer in some capacity since 2014, mostly writing YA and contemporary fantasy inspired by folklore, mythology and a good amount of bewilderment at the state of the world.
I write books and stories like The Princess and the Dragon and Other Stories About Unlikely Heroes, Rotting Trees or the Bezzina’s short stories. I sometimes share my thoughts on my blog. You might know me from my Folksy shop, which has book merch and funny, sarcastic stationery. I also offer sensitivity reading and manuscript appraisal.
My formal credentials: I have a BA(hons) in Religions, Philosophy and Ethics from Bath Spa University and am partway through a Masters in Scriptwriting. I’m also a student member of the Society of Authors. Please note I do not use generative artificial intelligence in my work and I do not give permission for my work to be used to train generative AI programmes. Why? Because I don’t fancy outsourcing my thought process to a computer system, especially not since big tech seems to be owned mostly by sociopaths on a power trip.

You can find me via my newsletter or hang out with me at the No. 1 Readers’ Club on Patreon, where I share my work before it’s available publicly. I’m sporadically on Bluesky, Instagram, Facebook and Tumblr. My Twitter is no longer active.
